Brutal Youth

'Bottoming Out' (7-inch stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 20, 2015

Toronto-via-Newfoundland punk unit Brutal Youth are set to deliver five new tracks with an upcoming 7-inch release titled Bottoming Out, and you can stream it on Exclaim.ca before it officially arrives next week.

We've already heard the rambunctious, rebellious lead single "War on Youth," and it's a pretty good indicator of how much punch the rest of the EP packs.

Blending the aggression of melodic hardcore with the catchiness of pop punk, the band showcase a range of sound in the short, sharp songs of Bottoming Out. Effortlessly flinging from growls and pounding drums rolls to poppy riffs and backing "hey's" and "oh's" on tracks like "Smear Campaign" and "Rancour," they manage to bridge genres that might not initially seem like a good match.

The 7-inch officially arrives on February 24 via Paper + Plastick, and you can pre-order a copy over here. The vinyl pressings are available in either solid white, or translucent wax with a blood splatter.

For those who can't wait until release day, you're in luck — give the five-song compilation a stream in the player below.

Brutal Youth are also currently out on a European tour, and you can see all their dates here.
