There have been rumblings about a Brian Wilson biopic for some time now, and Love & Mercy is finally set to make its world premiere. Excitingly, the premiere is taking place here in Canada, since it has been confirmed for the Toronto International Film Festival this September.

The film traces Wilson's mental health and substance abuse struggles throughout his life. Paul Dano (Looper, Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood) is playing the younger Wilson, while Hollywood A-lister John Cusack plays the older iteration of the Beach Boys star. Elizabeth Banks plays Wilson's wife Melinda Ledbetter, while Paul Giamatti plays controversial psychologist Dr. Eugene Landy.

Atticus Ross (a frequent collaborator with Trent Reznor) has indeed scored the film, as was previously rumoured.

Love & Mercy was written by Oren Moverman and directed by Bill Pohlad. It was shot last year. Presumably, further festival screenings and a wider release will follow the TIFF premiere.
