Bon Iver mastermind Justin Vernon has been plotting a music festival in his hometown of Eau Claire, WI, for a while now, but yesterday (October 28) his application made it through the final round of approvals.
Dubbed the Eaux Claires Music and Arts Festival, the 2015 event is scheduled to take place July 17 and 18 at the Country Jam grounds in Vernon's Wisconsin hometown.
Vernon has teamed up with Brian Appel and Jesse Bay of Boston's Crash Line Productions to organize the event, which is hoping for three performance spaces (two stages, one tent), onsite camping and approximately 25,000 attendees each day.
A description of the festival from the application reads:
Eaux Claires will be a world-class festival which will uniquely present and blend music, dance, art, cinema and the culinary arts. Special programming for families and children will be featured. Strong emphasis on Eau Claire and the Chippewa Valley will be provided through local food and drink vendors and artisans.
It concludes:
The Eaux Claires Music and Arts Festival will reflect the impressive business acumen of the principals of Crash Line Productions and the visionary musical and artistic talents of Justin Vernon. It will be an utterly unique and extraordinary entertainment event which will highlight the wonderful aspects of the Eau Claire community.
The location is described as a "vast, remote, wooded setting," which sounds like exactly what you would expect from a Bon Iver festival. Vernon will personally curate the lineup of artists, though there's been no word yet on who might play.
