Every few years, post-punk pop troupe Bloc Party announce an indefinite hiatus before inevitably returning. Though they've mostly been on a break since the release of 2012's Four, the group have now revealed that they're working on a new album.
Speaking with Triple J Radio [via NME], the band's Kele Okereke confirmed that they're working on a new LP. "I guess it's the first time that I have talked about it but we are making a record at the moment," he said. "It's sounding like nothing that we've done before but that's what everyone always says."
Okereke explained that the band are working with 18 song ideas, which they plan to flesh out before hitting the studio "in the next few months."
As for how they sound, he describes the music as "an evolution of where we were," saying, "So far there's nothing that I can compare it to really in terms of other musicians, whereas in the past I always could — we were always trying to reference something else."
Sweetening the deal, Okereke offered up a 24-second acoustic preview of a new song called "Exes." Listen to that below.
