Black Lips

"Freedom Fries"

Coming off of last year's Underneath the Rainbow, Atlanta flower punks the Black Lips have offered up a reasonably sunny sounding new single for the burger flippers out there. You can listen to their new tune, "Freedom Fries," online now.

The track, which will soon be available on a split 7-inch with fellow Atlanta rabble-rousers the Coathangers, is filled with jangling, Byrds-styled 12-string melodies and brisk backbeats.

Lyrically, the song follows a guy getting out of bed to hit his regular shift pressing down beef patties at a fast food joint. After noting he's scraping by on $300 a week, there's some optimism in his voice as he plots out an escape ("I know I gotta live before I die").

The grease-soaked look at the daily grind can be sampled down below, while the split single lands November 13 via Suicide Squeeze.
