The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach Unveils Arcs Project

In case you were wondering what would be the perfect soundtrack to next weekend's big fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Black Keys vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach has made things a lot easier for you. He's just unveiled a new project called the Arcs, and its debut single is themed around the world of boxing.

A newly launched website and various social media accounts confirm that Auerbach's new project issues a two-song single May 2 through Nonesuch. Coincidentally, that's the same day as the fight. The record features "Stay in My Corner" on the A-side and "Tomato Can" on the flip, and will apparently be sold exclusively at independent retailers.

As you can see up above, the cover art likewise gives a cartoony salute to the pugilists of the world. We'll give it two thumbs up, seeing as that bandaged boxer can't.

Auerbach revealed that he's likewise recorded an LP as the Arcs. Though details haven't arrived in full, the album was recorded in Brooklyn over a quick two-week stretch with Leon Micheals (Menahan Street Band) and various as-yet-unidentified players. Song previews have yet to be loosened, but Auerbach says the Arcs sound "extra weird."

"I just wanted to do my thing and get extra weird," he told Rolling Stone. "I wanted everything to flow [and] be cohesive. A lot of the songs bleed one into the other, a lot like the Grateful Dead – my favorite records that they did. So I've got a lot of connected songs. It's basically everything I love about music all wrapped up into one record — that's all!"

While Auerbach has been plenty busy with the Black Keys over the years, the Arcs aren't the only outside venture the bluesy musician has undertaken in modern times. He issued his solo LP Keep it Hid in 2009.

In related news, it's looking like it will be easier to grab the debut Arcs single than get into the Mayweather/Pacquiao boxing match. Tickets for the fight sold out this morning (April 24) within minutes of going on sale.
