Though they used to be incredibly closeLil Wayne and Birdman have had a very public falling out of late. Weezy suing his patriarch's Cash Money Records label, and Birdman in turn was named in an indictment suggesting that he was involved in a recent Lil Wayne murder plot. Perhaps in an effort to douse the flames a little, Birdman has since spoken out about his love for Wayne.

In a new interview with Angie Martinez for Power 105.1 [via Pitchfork], Birdman explained that he was simply upset with Wayne for the whole lawsuit thing.

"That was shocking to everybody," he said. "You never thought Wayne would be saying nothing negative about me in no lifetime. I never thought that could ever happen — for that man to open his mouth and say something negative about me.

"You understand me? That was a lot. Shit fucked my day up. I love my son. He mean the world to me. For that man to say something negative about me, that affected my life."

A clip of the interview can be streamed below, while the whole thing will be aired this afternoon.

In related news, TMZ recently offered up an alibi on Birdman's behalf regarding his involvement in the Lil Wayne shooting. While its true that Birdman received a call shortly after Weezy's bus was shot in Atlanta, a source close to the situation told the site that he was being informed about the shooting. It's also alleged that the phones involved were registered to Birdman because they're Cash Money company phones.
