Billy Corgan Now a Senior Producer at TNA Wrestling

Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan co-founded Resistance Pro Wrestling in 2011, but he cut ties with the organization in 2014. The rock vet apparently isn't done with the world of pro wrestling just yet, since he has joined Total Nonstop Action Wrestling as a senior producer of creative and talent development.

Corgan is working with the organization's Impact Wrestling show, which airs weekly in the U.S. on Destination America. A couple of years ago, rumours swirled that Corgan was interesting in buying TNA.

"There is a tremendous opportunity to go into really fresh, new directions," Corgan told Variety, saying that the organization might have characters who explore race or transgender issues. "There are ways to explore those themes in ways that are productive, create new stars and show that value-based 'babyfaces,' no matter what their background, no matter where they come from, can draw new audiences and inspire people in new ways."

He added, "Those social and cultural issues that are sort of a 'don't' go there' subject" will result in themes that will feel more meaningful to current audiences. I think there's an endless supply of things in our culture where people are dealing with race or with gender, et cetera, and you can get into these things in a way that is both revelatory and enlightening. Treated the right way, ultimately, the good guy wins. The right ideas win."

Corgan's creative work will begin to appear in TNA's shows starting in May.

This new job will allow the Smashing Pumpkins star to reach a much bigger audience than he did with Resistance Pro Wrestling. While RPW is regional and holds events in and around Chicago, TNA is one of the world's largest independent wrestling promotions, and its roster includes stars like Kurt Angle and Jeff and Matt Hardy.
