Wu-Tang Clan have experienced some delays when attempting to finish their long-promised album A Better Tomorrow, with RZA complaining that Raekwon has been absent during the sessions. Now, the Chef has fired back with some harsh words for RZA.
Raekwon evidently isn't happy with the music that Wu-Tang have been creating, and he likened his absence from the group to an athlete being on strike. He told Rolling Stone, "RZA's the type of dude where, in the '90s, he ruled. Now it's a new day. You're not attached no more. It's like being a coach and you won rings back in the day, but now your team is in ninth place. It's time for a new fucking game plan."
Regarding the recently released track "Keep Watch," he said, "I hate it. I hate it. I don't hate shit, but I hate that fuckin' record."
Raekwon is apparently not impressed with the rest of A Better Tomorrow either, since he said, "The bottom line: I'm not happy with that. I'm not happy with the direction of the music and I'm not happy with how dudes is treating dudes' business. What are we giving the fans? What are we giving the people that help us be here? If it don't feel right, I can't be fake."
He also shot down RZA's claims that the two haven't spoken, saying, "They know where I'm at and at the end of the day, him saying he didn't speak to me is a bold-faced lie."
And yet, despite the apparent rifts in Wu-Tang, Rae said, "There's no animosity with me and my brothers. My issue is with fuckin' management."
He insisted that he would never completely quit the group, but estimated his chances of appearing on A Better Tomorrow as a two out of 10, saying, "And I would never let my fans down and make something I feel is mediocre just to say I made it."
Raekwon might not think too highly of Wu-Tang these days, but evidently some people are still excited about the group, since they apparently had a $5 million offer to buy their ultra-limited new Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.
