Beefs 2012: Deadmau5 Calls Madonna a "Fucking Idiot" over Drug References

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 26, 2012

The 53-year-old Madonna has been in the business for three decades, but the Material Girl is still trying to push people's buttons. Well, she seems to be succeeding, but perhaps not in the way she hoped, as she recently incurred the wrath of deadmau5 for her casual drug referencing and appropriation of dance music culture.

On Saturday (March 24), Madonna showed up at Miami's Ultra Music Festival to introduce Avicii. As the Canadian Press reports, she asked the audience at the electronic music extravaganza, "How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?" In case you're not familiar, "Molly" is short for "molecular," which refers to a pure form of MDMA. That's right -- she's subtly promoting her new album, MDNA, by name-dropping MDMA.

Deadmau5 was not impressed by the drug reference, as he took to Facebook to write, "very classy there madonna. 'HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???' such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the f'n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! fucking cant smack my head hard enough right now."

He continued in a subsequent post, writing, "seriously, i giveth not a fucking single FUCK for slating on madonna for reaching an entirely NEW level of idiocy ... i can appriciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? That's your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? fuck off you fucking IDIOT. fuck."

He then wrote a subsequent blog post on the need for responsibility in EDM culture, which you can read here.

Watch the clip of Madonna's intro below. The whole thing is embarrassing and slightly painful to watch, especially when Madonna says, "In my world, the words 'music' and 'dance' are not separated, okay?"

UPDATE: If you're keeping tabs on this beef, apparently Madge and deadmau5 have tweeted out their differences, and things are all good between the pair. So yeah, as quickly as this all began, it's now over.
