Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch Launches Film Company
Yauch and David Fenkel, the former TH!NKFilm VP who has been appointed to run the business end, plan to obtain narrative and documentary features from festivals to release in the U.S. as well as provide funds to compete and release unfinished films. The two worked on Yauchís Beastie Boys documentary Awesome! I Fucking Shot That! at TH!NKFilm and are to complete all postproduction from their new workspace in Manhattan. Currently their plan is to release two to ten films in the first year and will do this without financial compensation from outside sources.
"We're not looking to throw big (minimum guarantees) at filmmakers or have lawyers throw numbers at us demanding a big minimum P&A," Yauch said. "It's been the downfall of many distributors."
Yauch hopes to make deals with "real back-end participationĒ for the filmmakers and may use outside film financing for marketing if the film warrants it. The first theatrical release is to be announced within the next month and should hit theatres by summer.
