Beach House

'Depression Cherry' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 21, 2015

Dreamy Baltimore pop unit Beach House are back with a new album called Depression Cherry, but before the record officially hits shelves, Exclaim! is giving Canadian fans a chance to stream the whole thing.

The new record marks the follow-up to 2012's Bloom, and bandmates Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally said in a previous statement that the new material shows off a more stripped-down side of the band. Their third full-length together, Depression Cherry hears the duo making "a return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments."

It opens with the melancholic, yet whimsical, "Levitation" and keeps the dreamy aesthetic, moody melodies and ethereal vocal performances consistent all the way through — though elements like the wild guitar riffs on "Sparks," swirling synth runs on "Beyond Love" and haunting choral arrangements on closer "Days of Candy" stand out and give the album its fair share of memorable moments.

Depression Cherry arrives on August 28 via Sub Pop, but you can give it an early listen right now in the player below.
