Bassilus C's Brain Damage is a subdued release with noir-ish leanings. Despite featuring compositions that are techno-oriented, this is not an album designed to move a dance floor. Instead, Brain Damage would be a suitable soundtrack to driving alone late at night, on dimly lit back roads, with only one's thoughts as a companion. These are simmering, meditative songs.

While the beats may deceptively seem to be fairly rudimentary at first, the subtle nuances of tracks like "Lyes & Theia Pt. 2" emerge and continually intrigue after many listens through its nearly seven-minute runtime. The morphing drones, skittering percussion, indecipherable echoes and the ever-shifting textures are compelling, and characterize this entire album. Brain Damage demands a listener to spend time with it, to hear it as a whole; and boy, is the reward worth it.
