Attack in Black

Windows EP

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Feb 27, 2007

Having utterly transformed themselves over the course of their short musical existence, this latest AIB incarnation finds the Welland, ON natives dolling out gritty, punk-infused rock’n’roll like it’s going out of style. Taking the melodic approach of post-hardcore groups such as Small Brown Bike and smashing it through the windows of the Sub Pop HQ, songs like "The Love Between You And I” manage to evoke the emotional power of late ’80s hardcore while mixing in the songwriting prowess of Springsteen’s most aggressive work. The result is a potent mixture of un-containable energy and astounding hooks buried just enough in the balls-out Ian Blurton production to keep things from getting even close to saccharine.
