AroarA Plot Sophomore Album for 2015, Tour North America with Cold Specks

With Broken Social Scene mostly on the down-low, that band's Andrew Whiteman is pressing ahead with AroarA, his project with his wife Ariel Engle. They've just announced their sophomore album, although the release is still nearly a year away: La Force will be out next September on Club Roll Music.

A press release notes that the 2015 collection will feature a similar sound to last year's In the Pines (which has since come out in the U.S. this summer), in that it features "cigarbox guitars, beats, melodies, and vintage hum." That being said, the rhythms are a little more propulsive this time around. Sonic touchstones include Wilco, JJ Cale and Emmylou Harris.

The big difference here apparently is in the lyrics. In the Pines was inspired by Alice Notley's poetry book of the same name, which was about a woman undergoing treatment for Hepatitis C. The new collection features the band's own words, which are inspired by the tarot card for "Strength."

"This new record is more about the body, and less about the mind," Engle said in a statement about the groove-heavy new album.

While we still have a while to wait for La Force, the band will spend the fall touring North America with Cold Specks. There are a few stops in the northern U.S., plus a selection of Canadian stops throughout Western Canada, Ontario and Quebec. See the schedule below.
