After some controversy, artists and labels finally seem to be on board with Apple Music now that the streaming service has confirmed that it will indeed be paying royalties during its three-month trial period. Things seem to be increasingly looking up for Apple Music, since it has now revealed some of the celebrity hosts that will have their own radio shows on the platform's Beats 1 radio station.
In addition to primary hosts Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden and Julie Adenuga, the New York Times confirms that other hosts include Drake, Dr. Dre (with a show called The Pharmacy), St. Vincent, Pharrell Williams, Disclosure, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Elton John (with a show called Elton John's Rocket Hour), and Jaden Smith.
Some of these hosts were already involved with Apple: Dre founded Beats Electronics, the company that Apple purchased as it prepared to enter the streaming world, and Drake appeared at Apple Music's launch event earlier this month.
It seems that the celebrity-hosted time slots will alternate between programming from the more experienced broadcasters. However, the celeb hosts will plan their own shows themselves.
The story from the New York Times confirms that Lowe's first major interview subject at Beats 1 is Eminem. This conversation is scheduled to air in the first week of broadcast.
Apple Music will launch on June 30.
