Apotheosis

Farthest from the Sun

BY Laura TaylorPublished Jan 1, 2006

A one-man project, Malta's Apotheosis has created a journey of exploration for the Nocturnal Art Productions debut, Farthest from the Sun. The album encompasses several musical styles, showcasing each in turn, rather than blending them together. With four songs covering more than 50 minutes, including two tracks reworked from a 1997 promo EP, Farthest from the Sun resembles a symphony more than a traditional metal album. Imbedded in the music's black metal foundation are elements of folk, new age/ambient, and classical. Farthest from the Sun's experimentation, huge sonic vistas and vast dynamics, are almost too much, but Apotheosis achieves moments of beauty and brilliance. Prepare to be overwhelmed.
