Andrew Bird Announces 'Norman' Score's Release

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 19, 2011

While last week we learned that whistling indie tunesmith Andrew Bird is the subject of an upcoming tour documentary, let's not forget that this isn't the first movie work the songwriter has got. Way back in 2009, Bird announced that he would be scoring the independent film Norman, a coming of age flick about a troubled teen. The film is now set to be released this fall, and naturally so will Bird's score.

The soundtrack to Norman is set to hit shelves October 11 on Mom + Pop, just before the film's opening on October 21. While a tracklisting has yet to be revealed, the set is said to contain Bird's all-instrumental passages from the film, as well as new and previously released tunes from the Blow, Wolf Parade and Chad VanGaalen.

As previously reported, Bird's first attempt at a film score maybe wasn't as smooth as he had hoped.

"This is the first legitimate full-length film that I did," he said. "I had the monitor of the film in the studio and I'm playing. It's a lot of work. I don't know if I ever want to do it again."

In other Bird news, the artist is reportedly nearly done his follow up to 2009's Noble Beast.

"It's almost in the can and ready to go," he revealed to Backbeat. "It'll be out early next year."
