At NXNE last year, Toronto singer Allie turned heads with her performance at Massey Hall. Despite the decidedly more intimate environs of the Red Bull Sound Select event at Adelaide Hall this time around, the results were just as impressive. Backed by DJ/producer/knob twiddler Birthday Boy, Allie ran through the electronically infused, futuristic R&B that characterizes her sound with a refreshingly laid-back vibe.

Though almost all of her songs are infused with progressive sonics, and head-nod-inducing rhythmic quirks, Allie's lyrics, vocal arrangements and stage presence are never overwhelmed. Overall, it's an undeniably formidable combination that had all in attendance giving Allie their full attention. Aside from playing most of the tracks from her Strange Creature EP which were largely produced by 2nd Son, Allie did play the SOCAN Songwriting Prize-nominated "Private Island," as well as newer tracks including "Remedy" and the Birthday Boy-produced "I Can't Wait."

Both songs added a couple of wrinkles to Allie's established sound, while heightening the anticipation for her new material.
