The Alchemist

"Israeli Salad" (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 26, 2015

While the Alchemist has cooked up beats for the likes of Action Bronson, Eminem, Curren$y and more, the L.A. producer has taken the instrumental route for a surprise beat tape called Israeli Salad. You can feast on his soul-infused beats now in a full stream of the release.

As anyone who's familiar with the Alchemist would expect, the beatsmith serves up a lot of gritty, vintage funk and soul samples, though this time they're plucked from pieces he found while travelling through the Middle East.

Up front, "The Arrival" focuses on a horny hook before being quickly swallowed up by crowd noise and a sleazy six-string loop. "Collage Pt. 2: Popeye the Pimp" features a sped-up and snaking keyboard line and some dialogue from the world-famous spinach muncher. "Matzik" relies on a laid-back groove and some whistling, while a gang chant and pleasantly plucked harps figure on "Yala Yala."

You can sample all of Israeli Salad down below, or pick it up via iTunes. Alchemist reports a vinyl version on "avocado"-coloured vinyl is already sold out, but you can pick up a standard edition on black wax over here, courtesy of Fat Beats.
