Air

"Playground Love" (live on KCRW)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 12, 2015

Air have shared one of the on-air rarities found on their upcoming deluxe reissue of their soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides. Unearthed ahead of the rest of the release is an alternate, chilled-out performance of "Playground Love" that was first broadcast on California radio station KCRW.

Recorded in 2000 as part of the Morning Becomes Eclectic program, it finds the act homing in on those familiar, slow-mo grooves, lovelorn whispers and sigh-inducing synth work. The saxophone heard on the original isn't here, but a mellow vibraphone adds extra melancholy to the  piece.

You can hear it for yourself down below, courtesy of Pitchfork.

As previously reported, the upcoming The Virgin Suicides is part of a larger reissue campaign that also includes new vinyl versions of Air's Premiers Symptômes (1997), Moon Safari (1998), 10,000 Hz Legend (2001), Talkie Walkie (2004) and Pocket Symphony (2007). They all land June 16 through Warner/Parlophone.
