Adele Says '25' Was Inspired by Kate Bush's Comeback

Last week, Adele released her earth-shattering, sales-toppling new album 25, her first release since becoming a mother. In a new interview, the singer explained how the release was inspired by another notable mother in pop music: Kate Bush.

In a new interview with the New York Times, Adele explains that she was deeply moved by Kate Bush's comeback concerts in 2014, particularly the performance's theme of motherhood. "Her whole show was about before her parenthood and then being a parent, and her kid was in it," Adele recalled.

"I read somewhere, and I don't know if it's true or not, that [her son] said when he was 16, 'I want to know now why everyone loves you.' And it makes me so emotional," she continued. "After that show, it was: 'I don't want to wait. I don't want to wait till my kid is 16, I want to show him now.' After that, I was: 'I don't care if no one wants me to make another [expletive] record. I'm making one for myself.'"

In the interview, Adele also opened up about her own experience as a mother. "I thought it would be easy," she said. "Everyone does it, there's seven to eight billion of us now. Everyone does it, how hard can it be? Hoo! It's the hardest thing ever."

Kate Bush isn't the only female vocalist that floats Adele's boat. The performer added that she's a big fan of Alabama Shakes and Lana Del Rey. "Lana Del Rey — she just stabs my soul all the time and makes me just want to cry. I love how mysterious she is as well. And I love that she just puts a record out and that's it."
