Late AC/DC singer Bon Scott may be gone, but fans are determined to ensure that he won't ever be forgotten. A crowdfunding campaign in the UK has reached its goal of raising funds to raise a statue of the late singer in his hometown of Kirriemuir, Scotland.
The town is already home to a street named after Scott, a memorial stone, an AC/DC section in the local museum, and an annual music festival called Bonfest that draws in international fans every year. Having surpassed the original goal of £45,000, organizers are looking to use the additional money raised to include a memorial garden around the statue.
The campaign commissioned sculptor John McKenna for the statue, which features Scott holding a set of bagpipes — paying homage to his Scottish roots, and giving a nod to his playing of the traditional instrument on "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)."
The statue will be revealed during Bonfest on April 30 next year. A resin mould of the statue is pictured in the photo above, and you can follow the campaign here. It runs until September 24 and has at the time of publication raised £48,170.
