One of the most unexpected performances of the festival may stand as one of its best; about a month before the event, Deathfest organizers and promoters of the Mobb Deep show scheduled to take place at one of Deathfest's venues decided to partner up and allow anyone with passes or single-night tickets into the event.
The result was a resounding success, with an enthusiastic and high-energy crowd made up of both metal and hip-hop fans. The Queens, NY hip-hop duo were in excellent form, feeding off of the energy of the crowd and winning over curious metalheads left and right. Metal and hip-hop are sometimes portrayed as opposing genres despite the long history of crossover and mutual respect between them, and it was a delight to see that connection honoured and represented at this performance.
