Zac Efron's EDM Movie Has One of the Worst Opening Weekends Ever

Despite the enormous popularity of both EDM and big muscles, it turns out no one in North America wanted to watch Zac Efron become a dance music DJ. Following a hilariously tone-deaf trailer that got attention for all the wrong reasons, We Are Your Friends just experienced one of the worst opening weekends in box office history.

Warner Bros. were hoping that enough people would watch the film in search of the drop, so they brought the heavy bass to over 2,000 theatres worldwide, paying $2 million to distribute the film. In its opening weekend, the film pulled in a meagre $1.8 million. With Friends like these....

To put that in perspective, Box Office Mojo lists We Are Your Friends as the fourth worst film opening (with a release to over 2,000 theatres) of all time. The only movies that did worse were last year's Saw 10th Anniversary (sounds vaguely familiar), 2008's Delgo (huh?) and 2012's Oogieloves In the BIG Balloon Adventure (what the?).

Warner Bros. VP of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein said, "This was a passion project for Zac Efron, and we believe in him.... Yes, the result was disappointing, but this was a small film."

According to Efron's Facebook feed, at least two people went to see the film in LA. They were his grandparents:
