Official U.S. Trailer

When Marnie Was There could very well be the last-ever production from the legendary Studio Ghibli. After Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement, the studio revealed it was taking an extended hiatus. Released last year in Japan, Marnie is getting an English-dubbed rerelease next month, and today we get the first taste.

Regardless of how you feel about overdubs, the new trailer looks pretty wonderful. For one, the loss of subtitles means more opportunity to get lost in the animation. Plus, the filmmaker's have assembled a top-notch voice cat that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Kiernan Shipka, Kathy Bates, Geena Davis, Catherine O'Hara and John C. Reilly, among others.

Watch the English version of the When Marnie Was There trailer below. The film will arrive to select theatres starting on May 22, with plans to expand its run throughout the summer.
