The Edward Snowden whistleblowing story has already been covered with the thrilling 2014 documentary Citizenfour, but now Oliver Stone has decided to take a crack at it as well. Snowden doesn't arrive until this Christmas, but a teaser trailer has emerged today.
Though there's no acting, the trailer is hilariously overwrought with a melodramatic cover of the Sunday School hit "This Little Light of Mine" and close-up shots of an American flag. But wait, there's a twist — the American flag is upside down! And it says "one nation under surveillance on it." Holy shit, that's poignant.
When they finally do release footage from the film, it'll star Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the titular role, with support from Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans and yes, even Nicolas Cage.
