One of the many, many reasons that we love Adult Swim's ongoing, hilarious movie review series On Cinema is guest star Gregg Turkington's extensive VHS collection, most of which he acquired from buying out an old video store. It turns out, his love of tapes puts him up there with another filmic legend, as Quentin Tarantino is a total home video buff.
The Playlist recently published an excerpt from the new VHS-themed book I Lost it at the Video Store, where Tarantino expressed his distaste for streaming services and his love of videos.
"I am not excited about streaming at all," he said. "I like something hard and tangible in my hand. And I can't watch a movie on a laptop. I don't use Netflix at all. I don't have any sort of delivery system. I have the videos from Video Archives. They went out of business, and I bought their inventory. Probably close to eight thousand tapes and DVDs."
And you know how your grandparents have hundreds of shittily labeled movies that they taped off of TBS? Tarantino does that too! "I have a bunch of DVDs and a bunch of videos, and I still tape movies off of television on video so I can keep my collection going."
Here's hoping Tarantino gets a chance to guest on On Cinema so we can find out what he'd pick for Popcorn Classics.
