Maggie Gyllenhaal Deemed "Too Old" to Play Lover of 55-Year-Old in Film

Hollywood executives have once again proven their abilities to be relentlessly, needlessly shitty when it comes to casting women. In a cruel cocktail of ageism and sexism, producers recently told 37-year-old actress Maggie Gyllenhaal that she was too old to play the lover of a 55-year-old man in an upcoming film.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, the actress explained that she was turned down for an unspecified role when she was deemed too old by a producer on the film.

"There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time," she said. "It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh."

Hollywood's general sexist shittiness is so bad that the American Civil Liberties Union recently suggested it be investigated as a civil rights violation.
