Though videogame movies are more often misses than hits, the long-awaited Assassin's Creed adaptation boasts a seriously respectable cast. Now, that cast has grown with even more prestige power.

The film adaptation already boasts Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard as its leads, and the cast has just been expanded with the addition of Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. Between the four of them, that's multiple decades of cinematic greatness that spans from art house to blockbusters.

The script for Assassin's Creed was handled by  Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie. In addition to starring, Fassbender will also produce alongside Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Conor McCaughan and Pat Crowley.

Assassin's Creed will be directed by Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders, Macbeth). It's set for release on December 21, 2016.
