David Lynch Returns to 'Twin Peaks' Series

Both fans and cast members were reeling last month when iconic director David Lynch announced he was stepping down from Showtime's upcoming third season of Twin Peaks. Now, however, the director and co-creator has announced that he's officially returning to the project.

Taking to his Twitter, Lynch brushed off the news that he was leaving as a rumour — a fairly strange thing to say, considering he hasn't even deleted the tweets where he announced he was quitting the show.

The news was confirmed in a statement from Showtime president David Nevins, who said, "David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours.... Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected."

Production on the series is said to be beginning immediately.
