Film fest favourite David Gordon Green has always made interesting directorial choices, and for years he tasked himself with remaking Dario Argento's beloved 1977 film Suspiria. The project was put to rest in 2013, then revived earlier this year as a potential television series but Green has officially moved on.
Speaking with the Crave B-Movies Podcast, Green explained that they're currently looking for a new director to take on the project. "I'm actually hopeful that it's happening with a great Italian director that I had breakfast with last week," he said.
Green added that, like the original Suspiria, the soundtrack would have been an integral part of his remake. "I wrote it with my sound designer," he said. "I love Argento's film and we wrote a very faithful, extremely elegant opera, basically of [it]. I don't mean musical opera, but it would be incredibly heightened music, and heightened and very operatic and elegant sets."
The film was set to star Isabelle Huppert and Janet McTeer. "We had an amazing cast of elegance and prestige that we were engineering for it," Green added.
