Cat Power to Narrate Janis Joplin Documentary

There have been rumblings about Amy Berg's upcoming Janis Joplin documentary, Janis, for some time. Now, with the flick set to premiere in September at the Venice Film Festival, we've got an exciting new tidbit about the flick: it will be narrated by Cat Power.

The film will feature the indie rocker, whose real name is Chan Marshall, reading out Joplin's personal letters.

Marshall is a fitting choice for the project, given that she has a proven track record of Joplin fandom; she covered the '60s soul singer's "Woman Left Lonely" on her 2008 album Jukebox.

Variety notes that Janis will includes classic concert footage, a soundtrack full of the vocalist's most famous hits, and interviews with Joplin's friends, family and peers. In other words, this is looking a lot more promising than 30 Rock's "Janet Jopler" film.

Earlier this year, Marshall lent her voice to the Adult Swim cartoon China, IL.
