Pop & Rock: Year in Review 2010

19. Gaslight Anthem American Slang (Side One Dummy)
It's been fun watching the Gaslight Anthem grow up. On American Slang, the New Jersey quartet know it's okay to sing nostalgically about a time they could only have experienced through photo albums and history books. Brian Fallon and the gang arrived at the place they always sought ― a no-man's land filled with romanticism, tattoos, Cadillacs, punk rock and a record collection stocked heavy with Springsteen and the Clash. American Slang is somehow your old man and your best friend all at once.

Why is the Sufjan Stevens picture the same as The National?
Because all the pictures are apparently the same!
Sufjan looks a lot like Win Butler, don't you think?
Typical, boring list... also missing one of the best albums of the year - Stars' The Five Ghosts.
Stars are not boring????
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Stars?!
What's missing in "Go" by Jonsi. Definitely one of the most unique and best records of the past year.
What, are you too busy trying to convince yourselves that utter jokes like Diamond Rings have actual musical talent to appreciate real music?
Stars are boring incarnate. I'd rather try and listen to actual stars.
I would have thrown Black Keys - Brothers and Yeasayer's Odd Blood to this list.
I second a vote for Black Keys album, Brothers. One of their best.
It's like every music site around just eats Pitchfork and then vomits up the same nonsense these days.
Seriously, no Land of Talk??? Come on!
Surprise for me-there is no Vampire Weekend.
The Black Keys went the extra mile with Brothers. That albums should be on every year end list.
Yeah but it still sounds like every other Black Keys album. How about the High Dials- their new album is off the hook.
Congrats to Arcade Fire, they do deserve the top spot for sure. But, there are some albums on this list that I believe shouldn't be there, and others that are around the bottom that should be around the top! Like why is the Broken Social Scene album @ 14? that makes absolutely no sense! And The National Album, should be 2 or 3.
Most of these bands will be forgotten in 10 years
That is without doubt the most BORING year end list.....what happened to the days when you didn't tilt nipple to that lot of flavor o the month shit? VIVA Black Keys and Peter Case!
It feels like the inclusion of Wolf Parade's worst album is just a nod to CanCon. Owen Pallett's totally overrated too; just because he understand arranging and orchestration, doesn't mean he can write a decent hook.
Pop? In what universe? You have to get airplay on radio to be considered "pop". Anybody heard the crap on Top 40 lately?
Um, Arcade Fire was the No. 1 album on the Billboard chart. That is pop.
I'm with Nameless Poseur; Arcade Fire gets almost no airplay, like say Rihanna or Usher. Modest Mouse were No. 1 in 2006, and they aren't pop either. They both fall under the rather unfortunate 'indie rock' heading. Um.
These folks put on one intense show.
Where are Vampire Weekend and The Popwinds?
diamond rings is a joke
Just wondering where YOU SAY PARTY! is after spending something like 8 weeks in the college charts. XXXX
wow this site is really wack
Love WOMEN's public strain
This is bullshit. If you guys weren't so busy giving each other "old Fashions" you might be able to open your fackin' ears for five seconds and start listening to music that isn't considered 'INDIE"
