Drake Has Scored the First Actual Burn of This Whole Feud

Kendrick's bars actually do sound kinda like '10 Things I Hate About You'

The enormous rap feud that Kendrick Lamar kicked off last month with his "Like That" verse has generated a lot of diss tracks and even more headlines β€” but the whole thing has been remarkably low on actual devastating burns. But, this week, Drake gifted the feud its first genuine zinger, and it's all thanks to the 1999 rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You

On Tuesday night (April 30), he posted an Instagram Story showing the memorable 10 Things scene in which Julia Stiles's character Kat reads a poem in front of the class. It goes: "I hate the way you talk to me / And the way you cut your hair / I hate the way you drive my car / I hate it when you stare / I hate your big dumb combat boots / And the way you read my mind / I hate you so much it makes me sick / It even makes me rhyme."

He posted the clip along with emojis of a broken heart and a winky face.

Although he didn't offer any further commentary, he's clearly referring to this string of bars from Lamar's Drake diss track "euphoria": "I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress / I hate the way that you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it's gon' be direct."

While Drake's IG story certainly isn't the most personal jab of the feud, it's the first time in this whole thing that someone has really made their rival look foolish. It casts Lamar's "euphoria" in a new light β€” because those lines do kinda sound like 10 Things I Hate About You, and they are kinda weak.

The Genius annotations offer various interpretations of Lamar's lines beyond the surface reading β€” including a reference to a DMX rant and a flip of a Michael Jackson lyric. But, if I ever bother listening to "euphoria" again (which, let's face it, probably isn't worth another six minutes of my life), all I'm going to think about is 10 Things I Hate About You.

If the most memorable jab from a weeks-long rap feud is a 10 Things I Hate About You meme, that probably isn't a good sign for anyone involved. Then again, "euphoria" has been good for business for a Toronto restaurant, so that's something!
